Being in Charge

Guest post written by our friend Jan Petersen

Being in charge of the finances for a home really forces you to pay attention to the money. What’s going in and out – it’s all important in the grand scheme of things and how it works to save up money. So I try to make sure I’m really informed when it comes to the family finances.

For example, I went to http://www.giveadish.com just to get a handle on satellite rates so I would know if we were overpaying. And I try to switch up my grocery stores week over week to make sure I know what things cost in the economy we’re in.

My husband’s really proud of how much money we’ve been saving and I feel good about what I’m contributing to the family as a whole. I love staying at home, but I want to pull my weight, too, so this is the best way I know to do so. I can’t believe there are so many ways to save money out there and that more people aren’t taking advantage of it!

Crafting Some Cute Kids Candy Containers

Guest post written by Shirley Milton
I really love making all kinds of crafts that have to do with the season or the holiday. My kids really love helping me out with them and most of the crafts have to do with them anyway.
We've been making all kinds of crafts together this month for Halloween and I knew that there was at least one last craft project that I wanted to make for my kids before it was actually Halloween.   Last year both of their candy containers broke by the end of the night, so I knew that we would need some replacements. I decided to craft up some really great ones.
So I looked online with my internet.clear to see if I could find some really good tutorials on how to make them some new candy buckets. I also thought that if I got them involved in making it, they would have even more fun with it.
I found all types of ideas for kids candy containers, but I decided to go with some that were made out of fabric. I considered a bucket but I thought that wouldn't do a very good job of keeping all of their candy in there.

New AC???

Guest post from: Constance Rodgers

Finding out that my house’s AC unit was going to have to be replaced this summer was not the best news in the world…do you have any idea how expensive that is? I had never priced it out before but let me tell you, I didn’t have a few thousand extra dollars sitting around to pour into a new AC unit!

I Guess you do what you have to do, though, when you own a house and anyone who’s ever been to Texas knows you can’t exactly go without air conditioning when it’s literally hot enough to cook a steak on the sidewalk.

I went to www.SHOPelectricityRATEStexas.com and poked around trying to find a better electricity rate to help offset some of the cost and that made me feel a little bit better, but I’m really thankful the AC guy has a payment plan set up for me or I don’t think we’d be able to squeeze it.

I’m just praying nothing else big breaks this year like the fridge or the oven! I don’t think we could afford anything more going out on us and I know my heart probably wouldn’t be able to take it, either! Oh lord, life really is hard nowadays!

Grammys 2011: Did It Live Up to Expectations?

Guest post written by  Franklin Davenport

Did anyone tune into the 2011 Grammy Awards on February 13th? I tuned into my favorite awards show of all time a bit later, thank God for DVR and DirectTV satellite specials!

I would first like to know why Lady Gaga felt the need to arrive an egg shaped car, perhaps she was really marketing her new single, " Born This Way"? I wasn't that impressed with her performance, expected a bit more from pop music's leading lady.
Eminem and Rihanna stole the spotlight when they took the stage to perform " Love the Way You Lie". Rihanna's dress, decadent in black, orange, and red was a much better fashion statement than her barely there, slinky looking dress at the Grammy opening.

The Grammy's always focuses on the good and bad of the fashion red carpet statements during the night. The best dressed went to Miley Cyrus, who didn't receive an award but did get to present while wearing a metallic black and silver evening gown. Bold, edgy, and flashy but she did wear it well. Singer/Songwriter and American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez was glowing in her silver dress, with plenty of shimmer, metallics, and silver for everyone at the Grammy's. She wore this style well and looked stunning alongside long time hubby, Marc Anthony.

Congrats to all of the Grammy nominees and winners, looking forward to all that's ahead for the 2011 year of music.

I Shouldn't Be Alive

I Shouldn't Be Alive

Thanks for the article from Maxine Taylor

This show is one of the most intriguing and scary shows that Animal Planet has to offer. The show, "I Shouldn't Be Alive," features the stories of people who have had unreal encounters with animals. This show is truly phenomenal in the way it presents these stories and makes them come to real life. I always make sure to watch it on my satellite tv Texarkana if I want a good fright!

Watching this show, I have seen so many stories of people that truly should not be alive. One person has had an encounter with a crocodile that should have died. This person was in Florida and merely had to run away from a croc that was following it on the highway! It was such an incredible story and my eyes were glued to the television the entire time.

This show is one of the most intriguing shows to watch, if one likes to learn about dangerous animals. There are always plenty of exotic and dangerous animals being featured on this show, like pythons. One will be frightened after he or she watches this program. Overall, I would highly recommend this show to any animal lover who has a keen interest in exotic animals. It is a program that will make one fascinated by the various types of wildlife that exist and will make one want to see them in real life!
